Olivier’s Bio

Why Blog Number n?
To collect my thoughts, and hopefully share some occassional insight, on the state-of-play of technology, law and culture, and on how they can play nice. So, in between reading a book on my phone and installing Ubuntu on an old Thinkpad, I write this blog. As it is a solo effort for now (but please read the contribute to page), and I try to get out there occassionally, Technology Law Culture is on a monthly posting schedule. Posts are between 500-800 words.

And You Are?
I am a young lawyer, specializing in IT and media law, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

In reverse order. I studied at the University of Amsterdam from ‘96 (dial-up!) to ‘01, and at the Pantheon Sorbonne in Paris in ‘00. I then went on to enjoy many a barbecue and play lots of golf around Durham in North Carolina, which also happened to be the location of Duke University School of Law. I got my LL.M. (Class of ‘02!) there and stuck around for another month or two to get my NY Bar. Good times.

From then on, I joined the Brussel’s office of the law firm of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. I started out on general M&A and financing work, but gradually moved to competition law work that was somehow related to IT, patents, copyright or the media industry. After that, I moved to Rotterdam, to work with the firm of Loyens & Loeff, in the Technology, Media and Ligitation practice, negotiation software contracts, taking a keen interest in bookpublishing and litigating a little. Today, I do not actively practice law.

Mmm, And What Else?
I work and live in Amsterdam. In summer, I tend to my terrace garden. In winter, I continue gardening in Harvest Moon on the DS ^_^. If the garden (in-game or IRL) is in good order, I might relax by reading the latest high concept book, or a classic, on our technological age.
